Five Tips for Curating Vastness
The bundles feature in Curated.by is very similar to Storify. They have not yet implemented the other media feature such as Flickr, YouTube etc., but they are coming. Also heard, via this video, that Curated.by are working with DataSift technology.
It’s been a busy week researching curation tools and I think this is just the start of things to come – Tips: Amplify, Curated.by, Storify, Twazzup and DataSift. Any others I should be looking at?
Update: The bundles 4 months on - http://www.curated.by/simbeckhampson
@simbeckhampson You should also check out my company Keepstream - http://keepstream.com - it's much newer product so it isn't as developed. But as we keep releasing new features, I think you'll find it will evolve into a really good curation tool with a uniquely different way to interact than Storify or Curated.by.
simbeckhampson I used storify to follow techcrunch disrupt this past week http://storify.com/klandwehr/techcrunch-disrupt. and wrote a review at http://www.geeknewscentral.com/2010/09/30/storify-an-attempt-to-curate/. Looking forward to the continuing development on all these.
@TimGasper Hmm.. It looks like the bookmarklet doesn't work in Safari though... Re: http://bit.ly/cudFAm

@TimGasper Wow! KeepStream is the coolest yet! I like that it saves pictures and some text from the tweeted articles. Really great. Lets see if the embed is as cool.
@TimGasper Ok. The bookmarklet worked but I didn't get a message that it was saved from some web pages.
@svartling Thanks so much for checking Keepstream out, glad you liked it! Something we changed lately might have caused it to act funny in Safari, my team will take a look and let you know what we find.
@TimGasper Cool. Definitely some potential there and some really nice UI ideas. Not sure about the "link queue", though. I'd rather choose the collection at the same time as saving the tweet. But definitely a service to keep an eye on. :)
@simplygrey Thanks for the tip, we like the idea of one-click bookmarking similar to Read It Later (Instapaper). But I think in the next version of the bookmarklet, after "keeping it" it will prompt you with the option to save to a particular collection - or create a new one with the link as the first item. Stay tuned. :)

@TimGasper Yeah, I can see the benefit in that, too, I suppose. After all, one will eventually have to visit the site to add commentary to the collection, so it's not such an inconvenience to have to wait to add the content to the collection, too.
Maybe making the queue more prominent would help? Like with its own button/link on the main page (rather than "hidden" at the end of the drop-down menu) with a badge counter to let you know you have unassigned content in there.
@simplygrey We'll pushing some updates to the collection creation interface over the next few weeks and making the link queue more prominent and easy to access will be a top priority. I love the idea of a badge counter! I'll talk with my team about that, I can imagine some interesting possibilities. Also, commentary is very key - that is something we may want to include in the bookmarklet to for on-the-go commenting on links. Thanks for the ideas! Feel free to reach more directly anytime at tim (at) keepstream (dot) com.

I wrote a blog post "Curation beyond social media" http://pietro.open-lab.com/2010/09/28/curation-beyond-social-media/
I curated your excellent blog post here: http://svartling.amplify.com/2010/09/29/curation-beyond-social%c2%a0media-interesting-post-about-curation/
Bookmark added on Android, but the overlay javascript window, which appears, is somehow not accessible. It is the same problem with DM's in Amplify - this inline Java overlay is not playing nicely with Android browser. As the DM windows issue works fine on iPhone the Storify marklet should work fine from your phone... off to find out more!
Yes I tried both Storify and Curated.by now and I think Curated.by could be good if they release a Safari extension and a mobile version.
svartling I think they are both quite similar, it will be interesting to see how they differentiate themselves as the pace hots up. I'm wondering also if Storify are using Datasift technology? Perhaps even Twazzup? This is the future of organising content and it's just beginning :-)
simbeckhampson Yes this is the future. Storify has a bookmarklet so it works already for me in Safari. Curated.by doesn't work. I wonder if the bookmarklet even works on my iphone? If so I can curate stuff to Storify on my mobile too. Would be cool.
@svartling It's a Javascript bookmarklet, so it should work like Amplifys :-) I'll give it a quick test on Android now...

simbeckhampson Pastefire and Pastebot works the same for iPhone. Except it works with all browsers ;)
svartling Edge... pissed off about Bookmarklets on Android. All works fine except you can't access the box... Grrr... and I'm on the latest Android, who knows when it will be updated?? @google @Android... the only pop-up overlay that works is Amplifies... more digging.
simbeckhampson I'm not sure it's android that keeps your popups from working I changed carriers & found all mine worked Version was prob Phone carriers tweak system & disable features sometimes
kstaxman Thanks for the heads up... hard to believe that 02 have prevented this from working? From the reading in forums, it seems that some bookmarklets may not work with the Android browser... but I'll explore along your line of thought too. The Amplify Mobile Bookmarklet works fine... but the DM overlays don't. Are you able to send DM's on the Amplify platform from your Android mobile?
simbeckhampson yes I was surprised to see just how much Verizon had disabled OS features might not be your prob but maybe darn phone co's anyway
Darn last reply went before I was finished. Don't let your cursor hover over post comment or it will go when it feels like it... LOL
Anyway yes I can now send DM's in amplify and other overlays that I couldn't do before switching to AT&T. Had the phone flashed to work with new carrier and since then lots of things work that didn't before. Getting to the kernel level and changing carriers was the only change made. Sad that they write OS's then companies disable features and make changes just for their benefit. Just keep me posted maybe we can understand just what is going on. Who knows maybe just flashing your phone would make some of these things work?
simbeckhampson well I suppose that could be the problem too so many possibilities it's enough to drive a person crazy
kstaxman This could be it! And yes, it is enough to make you crazy. I've just upgraded to 2.2 and all is stable apart from this issue. Need to decide whether to invest the time learning about flashing androids with new a ROM. Perhaps I'll make a screencast, would be easier for others to see - is there an App to show your phone's display on a PC?
