Growth Hacker
The discipline of marketing is shifting from people-centric to API-centric activities.
Here’s a few extracts I found interesting:
This isn’t just a single role – the entire marketing team is being disrupted. Rather than a VP of #Marketing with a bunch of non-technical marketers reporting to them, instead growth #hackers are engineers leading teams of engineers. The process of integrating and optimizing your product to a big platform requires a blurring of lines between marketing, product, and engineering, so that they work together to make the product market itself.
Before this era, the discipline of marketing relied on the only communication channels that could reach 10s of millions of people – newspaper, TV, conferences, and channels like retail stores. To talk to these communication channels, you used people – advertising agencies, #PR, keynote speeches, and business development. Today, the traditional communication channels are fragmented and passe. The fastest way to spread your product is by distributing it on a platform using APIs, not MBAs. Business development is now API-centric, not people-centric.
For the first time ever, superplatforms like #Facebook and #Apple uniquely provide access to 10s of millions of customers The discipline of marketing is shifting from people-centric to API-centric activities Growth hackers embody the hybrid between marketer and coder needed to thrive in the age of platforms.

Infographic: Which Brands Are Rocking Social Media?
Perhaps the question would be better phrased, Which brands are the best listeners, and from those, who provides the quickest and best solutions?
I like to take the example of what these top brands are doing with SM, in terms of listening and solution providing, and apply the same principal to Education and Workplace learning. If you're able to know in real time who needs support about what topic and recommend or connect the two best nodes, it's going to equal real value which can only equate to increased #performance.
The best thing about it is that the data is already out there, you just have to listen to it!
Dell is presented as a master in the art and science of listening.
Morton's made headlines with its surprise-and-delight effort with influencer Peter Shankman recently, but goes beyond that with helpful information regularly.
Unisys uses social media internally for effective collaboration and a boost to company productivity.
KLM is using Twitter and Facebook for real-time customer service and encouraging customers to submit ideas.
ABC is having fun with the way viewers can engage with their new show Pan Am by providing some goodies on Facebook. +Scott Monty

Getting closer, getting into the trenches by @garyvee
Are you wondering if Social is the right way to move your company and brand forward? Are you worried about ROI and how it can be measured? Are you concerned about bad publicity if someone says the wrong thing on Twitter or Facebook? After watching this video you'll be worrying it about allot less, actually you may be worrying more about if you'll still be in business in 4 years! Grab a coffee or a beer or as Gary would recommend a glass of wine, and enjoy this most excellent keynote, you really don't want to miss this information!
This is how I stumbled across this video (posted as a comment on UberVu's Facebook page)
"Someone online recommended to me that UberVu should be looked at if I was already looking at Radian6. I took their advice, and as result I found the video you posted above.
Now, I'd never heard of this Gary dude and I really should have gone to bed exactly 1hr and 15 minutes ago! Instead, I just watched the entire video of Gary Vaynerchuk, who I'd never head of, why? because I knew within the first 5 minutes that he was going to unleash a serious amount of passion.
I didn't even know what the topic was going to be about, it could have been African Elephants for all I knew. It wasn't about Elephants it was about the future of social engagement and it was a very powerful talk.
I know what Gary is talking about, I knew before listening to him, which is why I'm here already researching the likes of Radian6 and soon to be, UberVu. What I didn't realise, what I learnt from Gary, is that I personally need to spend much more time questioning and listening than talking and pushing – for that little gem, I just want to say a big thank you, Gary, and thank you UberVu for posting it!
Before I finally hit the hay, I'm adding this video to my favourites on YouTube and nipping into twitter to follow you both – tomorrow I'll be passing it on to others to watch, this message came at the perfect time! Social #serendipity strikes again (and again)!"

Facebook’s classroom potential studied by board
P.E.I.’s Western School Board is developing a new policy for using Facebook and other social media in the classroom.
A draft policy that sets out rules on how teachers and students can use the popular media will also likely open the door to cellphone use in the classroom.
“Teachers do use blogs, they do use wikis, they do have Facebook pages, and we certainly want to encourage that,” Sabean told CBC News on Thursday.
Facebook Places location-aware service launches in UK
I agree, this should be an opt in option and not set as a default…
Facebook Places location-aware service launches in UK
Facebook has launched its location-based Places service in the UK.
It allows people to “check in” wherever they are and see who among their friends and other Facebook users is – or has been – at the same location.
“By default, users are opted in to the ability to be tagged by their friends, they are opted in to allowing their friends’ Facebook apps to access their location information, and they are opted in to allowing ‘non-friends’ checked-in to the same place to see their whereabouts.
“This is all backwards – this should be deployed on a purely opt-in basis and no information about my whereabouts should be posted without my explicit consent, every single time a post is made.”

Batman Second: Too Freaky Not to Post…
As a result of a posting error today, I found myself copying a post from my profile to fan page on Facebook – nothing strange there… when you add a link to FB you have to complete the special two word code before it will accept it. Today’s code for this post was Batman Second. Now look at the image… is that spooky or what!
Amplify posting to Facebook – @egoldstein
Two little issues…
1) I just posted a clip which included native autoposing to FB. Unfortunately the default is set to FB profile and on this occasion I forgot to reverse them, which currently has to be done manually
and that is if you remember! (@eric – it would useful to be able to change the FB default, ie. 80% of my posts would go to page and not profile)
2) Next I went to FB and copied the profile post over to the page. Look at the differences… Is it not possible that posts coming from Amplify can take an image and a snippet of text?
Fingers crossed…

Social Media Design: It needs to be a bit out of control ~ Kevin Kelly (Post by John Battelle) #lrnchat #SoMe

“Formation of new cultures like cities, or online communities, require that a process be, in the phrase of Kevin Kelly, a bit out of control. Attempting to design the future is usually fruitless. Instead, as designers (and developers, architects, publishers, brands…), we must pay close attention to shifting behaviors, listen and participate deeply, and design as fast followers to where this culture leads us.”

Wagons Roll! It’s Carnival Time…

The time has once again arrived, time to venture into the wilds of Germany.
It’s carnival time peeps….
In time honoured tradition we’ll be touring six of the top fairs across the country. First stop is Darmstadt, the Heinerfest. It’s situated within the streets of the town itself, it’s a very beautiful town with wonderful parks. The festival runs from Thursday to Monday, with Monday being an extended weekend when all the businesses take their employees to the fair… gets pretty wild!
My father-in-law constructed this box of tricks in 1970; he still remains the leader in photography and shooting, his product and service are well loved and respected. I’ve helped him for almost ten years now, his apprentice so to say. He’s taught me about welding, painting, electrics, water, photography, rifles, electronics, transporting, caravans and the list goes on.
Simbeck’s Fotoschiessen has been photographing people surrounded by family and friends since 1950. Even today its a big occasion on a Sunday when the family gathers in their best outfits for the yearly photo (or 2 or 3 or more
Grandad’s come every year clutching their precious photo albums, they’ve made a photo ‘every’ year for 50 years – an entire lifetime one year at a time.
In order to motivate people into a state of intrinsic joy something needs to happen; it needs to be challenging and it needs to be fun. Often when people arrive they bring the baggage of the day with them, we ask them to leave their worries and cares on the street and just relax, have fun and let us photograph the inner joyful you…
Doesn’t always work, but we do try hard!
As of Thursday I’m on the road with limited connection power (@eric – that’s why clipping from Opera Mini 5 would be so useful)… I’ll connect as time permits, but it will be a far reduced service until October.

I’d just like to say thank you to my on line communities – for being there, for sharing and advising, for laughing and joking and for helping me learn so much more about the things that really interest me – take good care friends and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine.
